MADISON, Wis. – Following a pair of shutouts to open the 2012 season, the University of Wisconsin women’s soccer team finds itself back in the national rankings, peaking at No. 20 in Tuesday’s NSCAA/Continental Tire poll. The Badgers are also ranked in the Soccer America Top-25, garnering the 14th-most votes.

UW kicked-off its 2012 campaign with a pair of strong outings, winning its first two regular-season games without conceding a goal. The Badgers are 2-0-0 for the first time since 2005 and recorded just their second win all-time against Notre Dame in Friday’s season opener, defeating the 2010 national champions, 1-0. The win also marked the first victory for UW against the BIG EAST perennial-power since 1989.

The Badgers ended their weekend with a 5-0 win over South Dakota State on Sunday, and began their season with consecutive shutouts for the first time since 1993.

Wisconsin’s five-goal barrage against South Dakota State has become a usual occurrence for the Wilkins’ bunch. After Sunday’s performance, the Badgers have netted five or more goals in at least one match during four of the last six seasons.

Following a week off, the Badgers return to the pitch on Sunday, Aug. 26, for their third-straight home match when they welcome Loyola-Chicago to the McClimon Soccer Complex. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. CT.
