MADISON, Wis. – After dominating the W-League scene in 2012, Badgers junior goalkeeper Genevieve Richard is continuing her run as one of the more impressive players in net in all of the United Soccer League.
Richard’s consistent dominance between the pipes is being recognized as she is one of four finalists for the W-League’s Goalkeeper of the Year award. That announcement came shortly after Richard was named to the W-League’s All-League squad.
The Quebec native led the W-League with six shutouts in 11 matches for the Laval Comets, ranking second with a 0.545 goals-against average during the regular season.
The Comets (8-1-4) are the top seed for the W-League Championships and face the Carolina Elite Cobras (6-4-1) in a semifinal at 4 p.m. Friday in Bradenton, Fla. The championship and consolation matches are Sunday.
Last season, Richard split time in net with former Badgers senior Lauren Gunderson. Richard started in six games, earning a pair of shutouts and tallying a 2-3-1 mark. The junior logged 571 minutes, recording 27 saves and earning a .794 save percentage.
