Lavelle, Richard named to USL W-League All-Conference teams

July 22, 2014

MADISON, Wis. - The performances of Rose Lavelle and Genevieve Richard this summer were among the best in the USL W-League, as each was named to their respective 2014 All-Conference teams by the league on Monday.

Richard was one of nine players tabbed with All-Conference honors for the second consecutive season. A goalkeeper with the Laval Comets in the Central Conference, Richard played in 11 games and recorded six shutouts. The Saint-Bruno, Quebec, native faced a total of 52 shots and made 46 saves, allowing just six goals.

A redshirt senior at Wisconsin this fall, Richard started all 19 matches for the Badgers last season and tallied 80 saves with a save percentage of .784. She swatted a career-high eight saves against Nebraska last October.

For Lavelle, it marked her first W-League All-Conference selection. Competing with the Dayton Dutch Lions, Lavelle was also chosen as Player of the Week (6/4) after she had one of the most dominant weeks in recent W-League history. She tallied four goals and two assists in Dayton's 6-2 win against Atlanta days after scoring the game-winner in a 1-0 victory against Charlotte.

Lavelle is currently preparing for the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup in Canada this August.

Set to begin her sophomore campaign with the Badgers this fall, Lavelle became the first player in program history to be named Big Ten Freshman of the Year. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native was also the first UW player to earn first-team All-Big Ten honors since Michelle Dalton in 2011.

W-League All-Conference teams are selected through a vote of team management and feature some of the top young women's soccer talent in the world.

Debuting in 1995, the USL W-League is a North American women's developmental organization and open league that gives college players the chance to play with established international players while also maintaining their collegiate eligibility.
