MADISON, Wis. – After a dominating W-League summer season for the Hamilton Rage, junior goalkeeper Genevieve Richard is among 24 players named to the Canadian Under-20 women's national team camp.
The camp, which starts Tuesday in Montreal, is scheduled for six days and will conclude with the Canadian national team coaches selecting 20 players to compete in a two-week camp in Europe next month. The stint in Europe will include matches against Italy on July 14 and Switzerland on July 20.
Canada is preparing for the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup, which begins August 19 in Japan. The Canadians will play Norway, Argentina and North Korea in the 16-team tournament.
Marquette defender Vanessa Legault-Cordisco will join Richard on the Canadian national team as the lone pair of representatives of the state of Wisconsin. The 5-foot-11 Richard has been a dominant force in goal for the Hamilton Rage this summer in the W-League, posting three shutouts and a 1.07 goals against average.
Richard is one of three current goalkeepers on the 2012 UW roster who will look to replace Big Ten Goalie of the Year Michele Dalton.
