MADISON, Wis.-- 2012 Olympian and former Wisconsin women's lightweight rower Kristin Hedstrom joins four previously announced former Badgers competing in the 2014 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Hedstrom, a Concord, Massachusetts native, is set to compete in the U.S. lightweight women's quadruple sculls, substituting for Helen Tompkins, who is suffering from an injury.
Of the five Badgers competing in this year's event, Hedstrom is the most experienced, with the 2014 event marking her eighth national team appearance. In the 2013 World Rowing Championships in South Korea, she raced in the lightweight double sculls, earning a silver medal.
The two other veteran rowers from the Wisconsin contingent are Vicky Optiz and Grant James competing in the women's eight and the men's four, respectively. Senior national team rookies Andy Weiland and Grace Latz will row for the men's lightweight eight and women's quadruple sculls, respectively.
The races will be held Aug. 24-31.
