WINDSOR, England – The U.S. women’s lightweight double sculls duo of Julie Nichols and former Badger Kristin Hedstrom completed their Olympic journey finishing fifth in the B final at Lake Windsor on Saturday.
Hedstrom, who rowed bow for the lightweight double, along with Nichols, competed in four races during the opening week of the Olympics. The tandem earned a spot in the lightweight double semifinals after dominating the repechage earlier this week.
A 2009 graduate of Wisconsin, Hedstrom has had a decorated career since exiting the UW, including a lightweight double sculls national championship at the National Selection Regatta #2 in 2012.
Hedstrom and Nichols placed fifth in the B final with a time of 7:23.31. Canada finished first in the B final, while Great Britain, China and Greece finished first through third, respectively, in the A final, as all three medaled in the Olympic event.
