Purman a lightweight rowing All-American

June 28, 2014

MADISON, Wis. -- Frosh women’s lightweight rower Gabriela Purman (Wayland, Massachusetts) became Wisconsin’s 12th Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Pocock All-American in the sport when the organization announced its annual team.

Purman, the stroke seat for Wisconsin’s sixth-place varsity eight at the 2014 Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships, becomes the first frosh lightweight rower at Wisconsin named an All-American since the team was first named in 2007. She is one of two frosh in the country named a 2014 All-American.

In addition to her boat’s sixth-place result at the national championships, Purman and the UW lightweight eight placed second at the 2014 Eastern Sprints, the team’s conference championships. In the fall, Purman helped UW to third at the Head of the Charles.

Selection to the All-American team is based on coaches’ nomination and national championship team performance.
