MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's lightweight rowing team has a strong tradition of success, having won the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship five times in the last decade. Head Coach Lisa Schlenker looks to build on that tradition with the addition of 18 student-athletes who have committed to row at the University of Wisconsin starting in the fall of 2014.
"We are really looking forward to working with these freshman," Schlenker said. "This group has both depth and speed."
"It's been great getting to know all of these amazing athletes and I can't wait to see them rowing as Badgers" said Assistant Coach Todd Vogt.
Nicole Bowman, Saratoga, Calif. (Los Gatos Rowing Club/Saratoga High School)
A four-year rower, Bowman currently rows for Los Gatos Rowing Club in Los Gatos, California, under Coach Matt Pinschmidt. For the last two years, Nicole has raced in the lightweight eight event at the USRowing Youth National Championships, earning a bronze medal in 2012.
Jumana Dahleh, Lexington, Mass. (Community Rowing Inc./Lexington High School)
Jumana has been rowing for the last two years at Community Rowing in Brighton, Massachusetts, under Coach Veronika Platzer and Coach Mike Baker. She competed in the 2013 Canadian Henley Regatta racing in the under-19 double sculls, under-19 four with coxswain and under-19 eight.
Mirha Girt, Burnaby, British Columbia (Burnaby Lake Rowing Club/Crofton House School)
Mirha is a four-year rower from the Burnaby Lake Rowing Club in Burnaby, British Columbia, under Coach Cinda Ewton. Mirha has strong racing experience. Her highlights include winning the senior lightweight double sculls event at the 2013 Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Association Championships. She also finished in second place in the under-19 quadruple sculls event at the 2013 Canadian Henley Regatta.
Lauren Hoover, Bettendorf, Iowa (Y Quad Cities Rowing/Bettendorf High School)
The four-year rower from Y Quad Cities Rowing under Coach Peter Sharis, Lauren will be joining the Badgers as a seasoned racer. Her highlights include winning the intermediate lightweight quadruple sculls event at the 2013 USRowing Club National Championships. At the 2013 USRowing Youth National Championships, she finished in eighth place in the lightweight double sculls event.
Sonja Liljegren, Orinda, Calif. (Oakland Strokes/Miramonte High School)
Sonja comes to Madison with significant rowing experience. The four-year rower competes for Oakland Strokes in Oakland, California, under Coach Derek Byrnes. She earned a bronze medal in the high school lightweight eight event at the 2014 San Diego Crew Classic.
Cecily Linsenmeyer, Monona, Wis. (Camp Randall Rowing Club/Monona Grove High School)
Cecily has been rowing for the last two years at the Camp Randall Rowing Club in Madison, Wisconsin, under Coach MB Blanding. Cecily received honorable mention in the 2013-14 USRowing Scholastic Honor Roll.
Eleanor Martin, Evanston, Ill. (Chicago Rowing Foundation/Evanston Township High School)
A three-year coxswain, Eleanor has been a competing for the Chicago Rowing Foundation in Chicago, Illinois, under Coaches Mike Tanner and Rick Booms. Eleanor coxed the Chicago Rowing Foundation men's eight to a 10th-place finish at the 2013 USRowing Youth National Championships.
Robin Ritchey, Wilton, Conn. (SoNo Rowing/Wilton High School)
The four-year rower from SoNo Rowing in Wilton, Connecticut, trains under Coach Christopher Wyant. Her rowing highlights include placing ninth in the double sculls event at the 2013 USRowing Youth National Championships and stroking the U.S. quadruple sculls at the 2013 CanAmMex Regatta.
Emma Rowell, Madison, Wis. (North Suburban Crew/Lake Forest High School)
Emma is a two-year rower from North Suburban Crew in Skokie, Illinois, under Coach Heather La Vigne. Her career highlights include a fourth-place finish in the lightweight eight event at the 2012 Midwest Junior Rowing Championships and a third-place finish in the under-23 lightweight eight at the 2012 Canadian Henley Regatta.
Samantha Rude, Manhattan Beach, Calif. (Marina Aquatic Center/Mira Costa High School)
Sam has been rowing for three years and currently trains at the Marina Aquatic Center, in Marina Del Rey, California, under Coach Zohar Abramovitz. Sam stroked the lightweight eight to a sixth-place finish at the 2014 San Diego Crew Classic.
Tinamarie Schmansky, Dix Hills, N.Y. (Sagamore Rowing/Our Lady of Mercy Academy)
Tinamarie will join the Badgers with four years of rowing experience. She currently rows with Sagamore Rowing in Oyster Bay, New York, under Coach Amadeusz Pietrzak. Her rowing highlights include a 10th-place finish in the lightweight four at the 2013 USRowing Youth National Championship.
Aviah Stillman, Whitefish Bay, Wis. (Milwaukee Rowing Club/Whitefish Bay High School)
Aviah will join the Badgers after rowing for the Milwaukee Rowing Club in Milwaukee under Coach Roger Huffman. She finished in second place in the junior lightweight category at the 2014 Mid-Winter Meltdown ergometer race. She raced at the 2013 Head of the Charles in the youth eight event, finishing in 26th place.
Sarah Thomas, Berwyn, Pa. (Conestoga High School Crew Club/Conestoga High School)
Sarah has four years rowing experience, having rowed the last two years with the Conestoga High School Crew Club in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, under Coach Paul Coomes, Sarah has a solid rowing background. Her high school career highlights include stroking the quadruple sculls to a 15th-place finish at the 2013 USRowing Youth National Championships.
Janet Titzler, Palo Alto, Calif. (Norcal Crew/Gunn High School)
Janet comes to Madison after rowing with Norcal Crew in Redwood City, California, under Coach Allison Lyon. As team captain, Janet rowed in the bow seat of the youth four that finished in 17th-place at the 2013 Head of the Charles Regatta.
Beatrix Tobey, New Canaan, Conn. (Maritime Rowing Club/New Canaan High School)
A four-year rower from Maritime Rowing in Norwalk, Connecticut, under Coach Yan Vengerovskiy, Bea has significant rowing experience. Her highlights include a fourth-place finish in the lightweight double sculls at the 2011 USRowing Youth National Championships and a seventh-place finish in the youth single scull event at the 2013 Head of the Charles Regatta.
Jenn Whitehill, Riverside, Conn., (Greenwich Crew/Greenwich High School)
Jenn is a five-year rower with Greenwich Crew in Greenwich, Connecticut, under Head Coach Marko Serafimovski and Assistant Coach Heidi Hunsberger. As team captain, Jenn's rowing highlights include a 15th-place finish in the youth eight at the 2013 Head of the Charles Regatta.
Brianna Wynne, Los Alamitos, Calif. (Long Beach Junior Crew, Los Alamitos High School)
Brianna comes to Madison with five years of rowing experience with Long Beach Junior Crew, in Long Beach, California, under Coach Alfredo Montenegro. Her career highlights include winning the high school lightweight eight event at the 2014 San Diego Crew Classic as well as multiples trips to the USRowing Youth National Championships.
Rachel Yan, Weston, Mass., (Wayland-Weston Crew, Weston High School)
Rachel will join the Badgers with four years of rowing experience as a member of Wayland-Weston Crew under Coach Boris Kusturic. For the last two years she has rowed in the lightweight eight event at the USRowing Youth National Championships, earning a silver medal in 2013.
