In the 2008 seasons first USRowing Collegiate Poll
released April 2, Wisconsins lightweight womens rowing team ranks No. 4 in
the nation. The Badgers received one of the 10 first-place votes, but the
majority went to top-ranked Princeton University.
Powerhouses Georgetown University and Stanford University
trail Princeton in the USRowing Varsity Lightweight Eight Collegiate Coaches Poll,
ranking second and third respectively. Wisconsin and Bucknell University,
ranked eighth, were the only teams besides Princeton to receive first-place
votes.
Rounding out the top five is Radcliffe, who the Badgers will
race April 12-13 at the Knecht Cup in Camden, N.J., along with No. 3 Stanford.
Wisconsin will face the No. 1 Princeton lightweights May 3 in Princeton, N.J.,
on Lake Carnegie, but will not compete against Georgetowns crew until the
EAWRC Championships near the end of the season.
Wisconsin is the only Big Ten team ranked in the top 15, though Penn State and Ohio State both received votes and follow closely behind No. 15 Santa Clara University.
Last season, the Badger lightweights were ranked in the top
two all spring in the USRowing Collegiate Poll , moving up to No. 1 in late
April. Princeton, Stanford, Georgetown and Radcliffe also spent the 2006-07
season in the top five of the poll with Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin womens next appearance will be Saturday in
San Diego, Calif. at the 35th annual San Diego Crew Classic, where
boats from around the country compete in more than 30 events. Check out
