MADISON, Wis.
-- Wisconsin women’s rowing assistant coach Megan Cooke Carcagno was named the 2012 CRCA Central Regional Assistant Coach of the Year, the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association announced.

Cooke-Carcagno is in her fourth season as Wisconsin’s novice coach. She led UW’s first-year rowers to a Big Ten championship in the second novice eight and a second-place finish in the first novice eight at this season’s Big Ten championships.

“The honor is very well deserved,” head coach Bebe Bryans said. “We’re really proud of her.”

It is the second regional assistant coach of the year honor for Cooke-Carcagno, who also won the award in 2009 after directing the UW novice crews to Big Ten titles in the novice eight and second novice eight events. The novice eight also took first in the NCAA Central Regional regatta in 2009.

The Assistant Coach of the Year award recognizes an assistant coach who meets one or more of the following criteria, as set out by the CRCA: “Outstanding commitment to his/her program, made a significant impact on the success of his/her program and demonstrated a high level of professionalism and integrity as a coach.”
