MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women's rowing varsity four has been named the Big Ten's Boat of the Week for the second-consecutive week, the conference announced on Tuesday. This marks the first time a Wisconsin boat has earned back-to-back weekly honors in program history.
The Badgers hosted Big Ten rivals Minnesota and Michigan State this past Sunday, May 5, on Lake Mendota. The varsity four turned in the second-largest margin of victory of the day, defeating the Gophers' second-place boat by 14 seconds.
Coxed by Marie Hebert, the boat includes rowers Nicole Hettmann, Kaitlin Dunn, Steph Malchine and Rachel Gendreau.
The varsity four has only lost to three boats this season, all of which came during the boat's first day on the water at the Lake Natoma Invitational on April 21. Since then, the varsity four has gone on to defeat seven boats, including Stanford and Virginia.
Wisconsin now turns its attention to preparing for the 2013 Big Ten Rowing Championship, which takes place on May 19 in Indianapolis.
