MADISON, Wis. – After a successful Saturday effort allowed the Wisconsin women's team to have both of its boats qualify for the grand finals, the Badgers scored a fifth- and sixth-place finish on Sunday to cap their trip to the San Diego Crew Classic.
The varsity eight finished fifth out of six teams in the grand final with a time of 6:52.78. USC took the top spot at 6:38.61, followed by Washington, Washington State and USD in second, third, and fourth, respectively.
The second varsity eight also competed in the grand final round, and its 6:59.25 time was good for sixth, behind California, Washington, USC, Washington State and UCLA, in that order.
"I think both boats learned a lot," head coach Bebe Bryans said. "Neither boat was really satisfied with their racing, but there were some improvements made over yesterday's races and that bodes well for the future."
The Badgers will be back in the water next Saturday for the Big Ten Double Dual in East Lansing, Mich.
