MADISON, Wis. – Members of the University of Wisconsin women’s hockey team visited Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin prior to the holiday season to learn about the organization’s services in promotion of the Fill the Bowl game set for Jan. 29, 2011 when Wisconsin hosts Minnesota at the Kohl Center.

The Fill the Bowl game is set for 7 p.m., and all fans will receive admission for only $1.

The Badgers invite fans to help them in their quest to break the NCAA attendance record while also helping Second Harvest Foodbank. For every person in attendance at the game, Becker Law Office will donate $1 to Second Harvest, and UW will collect non-perishable food items to be donated as well.

The Badgers toured Second Harvest Foodbank and learned about the organization’s services before spending time volunteering by bagging apples. In total, the Badgers bagged 3,645lbs of apples, the equivalent of 2,804 meals if someone ate only apples.

Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending hunger through community partnerships in southwestern Wisconsin, serving nearly 141,000 people who struggle to put food on the table, including 43 percent who are children. Second Harvest Foodbank is one of 200 affiliates of Feeding America, the nation’s largest charitable hunger-relief organization.
