MADISON, Wis. -- UWBadgers.com caught up with sophomore Stefanie McKeough (Carlsbad Springs, Ontario) in its first segment of “Badger Breakaway,” where the UW women’s hockey players will share some of their favorites on and off the ice.
McKeough has played in all 14 games this season, earning nine points on three goals and six assists. She scored two goals against Ohio State Oct. 22 and netted the game-winning goal with one assist at Minnesota Nov. 6.
This weekend, McKeough and the second-ranked Badgers travel to Grand Forks, N.D., for a WCHA series against No. 8 North Dakota. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
UWBadgers.com: What is your favorite arena to play in away from home?
McKeough: Last year, I liked playing at Minnesota State in Mankato even though their dressing rooms are small. Their rink has kind of a high school feel to it. That’s kind of different and nice to play in again.
UWBadgers.com: What is one thing that you bring on every road trip?
McKeough: My pillow. It has a bright yellow pillowcase on it. I always have to wash it after every road trip because I end up spilling something on it.
UWBadgers.com: What is your favorite practice drill?
McKeough: I would say quick-strike two-on-one.
UWBadgers.com: What is your favorite piece of hockey equipment?
McKeough: My elbow pads. They are old and they’re small, but they get the job done. My left one has stayed intact, but my right one is all taped up.
UWBadgers.com: What is your pregame routine?
McKeough: I try to not think about the game because then I’ll psych myself out.
UWBadgers.com: Who is the funniest player on the team?
McKeough: Carla Pentimone. She always has a funny story to tell, even if it’s at the cost of herself.
UWBadgers.com: Who is the best dressed player on the team?
McKeough: I’d have to say Saige Pacholok.
UWBadgers.com: What is the thing you love most about Madison?
McKeough: I love that it’s a college town. I’m from Canada, and we don’t really have college towns in Canada. When I was looking at schools and came here on a visit, I realized that this is what a college town is all about. I liked the whole atmosphere.
UWBadgers.com: What do you love most about the Kohl Center?
McKeough: I love how big the ice sheet is, and the fans and announcers are always very professional.
UWBadgers.com: What is your favorite professional sports team?
McKeough: The Detroit Red Wings and the Ottawa Senators. It’s a tie.
UWBadgers.com: What is your best hockey memory?
McKeough: Probably winning nationals with Team Ontario my last year of midgets, and the outdoor game last year was by far one of the coolest things.
