MADISON, Wis. – Freshman forward Brittany Ammerman (River Vale, N.J.) was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week for Nov. 3 after recording two points to help the Badgers sweep Minnesota State last weekend.
Ammerman scored Wisconsin’s second goal of the game in a 3-2 home-ice win over the Mavericks last Friday. Ammerman gave the Badgers the 2-0 lead when she collected a pass from older sister Brooke Ammerman (River Vale, N.J.) just outside the crease. Ammerman’s shot skimmed the post on its way into the net at the 12:23 mark of the first period.
The freshman then assisted on the UW’s final goal in a 6-1 victory over Minnesota State last Saturday. She finished the series with a plus-two plus/minus rating and recorded seven shots.
Ammerman is currently fifth on the team and ninth in the nation with five goals and four assists for nine points. She has a plus-nine plus/minus rating and is tied for third among WCHA rookies with five points on three goals and two assists.
The award marks Ammerman’s first career player of the week honor. She is the third Badger to pick up a conference weekly award this season as juniors Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho) and Carolyne Prevost (Sarnia, Ontario) have each earned WCHA Offensive Player of the Week laurels.
In other WCHA weekly awards this week, Bemidji State senior forward Erin Cody was named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week, and senior defender Shannon Reilly of Ohio State took home the league’s defensive player of the week award.
No. 1 Wisconsin (8-0-0, 6-0-0 WCHA) travels to No. 8 Minnesota (5-4-0, 2-4-0 WCHA) for its first road series of the season this weekend. The Badgers take on the Gophers at 6 p.m. Friday and conclude the series at 4 p.m. Saturday. Both games will be played at Ridder Arena.
