MADISON, Wis. – Junior Carolyne Prevost (Sarnia, Ontario) was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 13 after recording four goals in the Badgers’ series against Bemidji State last weekend.
Prevost’s four-goal effort included a hat trick, two game-winners, a shorthanded goal, a power play goal and a first goal, as the Badgers (4-0-0, 2-0-0 WCHA) swept Bemidji State (1-3-0, 0-2-0 WCHA) in their league-opening series. Prevost had a plus-four rating in the two games. Her team-high 11 shots on the weekend produced a .364 shot percentage.
In the team’s 7-1 victory over BSU on Oct. 8, Prevost led UW with a hat trick, including the game-winning goal. Her first goal gave Wisconsin a 2-1 lead when she beat Bemidji State goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova five-hole on a shorthanded goal at the 9:18 mark of the second period. Less than six minutes later, with UW on the power play, Prevost tallied her second-straight goal. She netted her third goal with just 50 seconds remaining in the game, completing her second career hat trick as a Badger.
UW’s 2-0 win on Oct. 10 saw Prevost cap her four-goal weekend with her second-straight game-winning tally. The left winger buried a pass from Brittany Haverstock (Hammons Plains, Nova Scotia) from just outside the crease with 1:12 remaining in the first period. The goal proved to be the game-winner as the Badgers shut out the Beavers.
Prevost is third on the team in scoring with a team-best six goals for six points. Her 19 shots are tied for the team lead, and she has a plus-eight rating on the season. Prevost leads the nation with three game-winning goals in four games and is tied for second in the country with 1.50 goals per game and one shorthanded goal.
Prevost is the second Badger to earn WCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors this season after fellow junior Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho) took home the honor last week.
This week’s award is Prevost’s second career league player of the week honor after she received the distinction for the week of Jan. 27, 2010. Prevost tallied a four-point weekend against St. Cloud State, recording her first collegiate hat trick.
In other WCHA weekly awards this week, North Dakota junior goaltender Stephanie Ney was named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week, and Ohio State freshman goaltender Lisa Steffes earned the league’s rookie of the week award.
The Badgers are off this weekend before hosting Ohio State Oct. 22-23. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. (CT) both nights.
