MADISON, Wis. - Freshman forward Blayre Turnbull was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week for Oct. 5 after recording six points in the Badgers' season-opening series sweep of Lindenwood (Sept. 23-25). The freshman helped the top-rated Badgers beat Lindenwood by a combined 24-0 in two games.
In her first collegiate game, the Stellarton, Nova Scotia native had two assists in an 11-0 triumph over the Lady Lions at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Turnball then scored her first career goal as a Badger in the weekend series finale on Sunday, Sept. 25. The freshman added three assists for four points in the 13-0 UW victory.
In addition to her six points, Turnbull had three shots on goal in each game.
Brittany Ammerman was the last Badger to receive the WCHA Rookie of the Week award when she was honored with it last season (Nov. 3, 2010).
The Badgers continue their homestand this weekend playing host to No. 6 North Dakota on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 8 and 9. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. both days.
