MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women’s hockey team has announced the naming of three seniors to the captain and assistant captain positions that will lead the Badgers during the 2014-15 campaign.
Forward Blayre Turnbull will wear the ‘C’ on her sweater, while forward Karley Sylvester and defenseman Katarina Zgraja will serve as assistant captains.
Turnbull elevates from the assistant captain position she held in 2013-14 after leading Wisconsin with 22 assists and adding 18 goals in 38 games played.
The Stellarton, Nova Scotia, native set the school record for short-handed goals last year with five. She also made history after netting two tallies on the penalty kill in the third period of UW’s 5-1 win at Minnesota State, becoming the second Badger to score two short-handed goals in a game and the first to complete the feat in a single period.
Sylvester registered the third best plus-minus (+19) on the team last season and notched nine goals and seven helpers. The left-handed shot has reached the 10-point mark in each of her three seasons wearing the Cardinal and White.
As a junior, Zgraja produced seven assists, 34 blocked shots and a +13 plus-minus. The Waterloo, Ontario, product returns carrying the second highest career plus-minus on the team with a +50 rating, trailing Brittany Ammerman’s +65 mark.
