Five Badgers named to U.S. National Team for 2013 World Championships

MADISON, Wis. – Current Wisconsin women’s hockey players Brianna Decker and Alex Rigsby, along with former players Meghan Duggan, Hilary Knight and Jessie Vetter, have been named to the U.S. Women’s National Team that will compete at the 2013 IIHF Women’s World Championships in Ottawa, Ontario, April 2-9.

Additionally, Duggan was named an alternate captain for the U.S. squad.

It marks the first world championships for Rigsby, third for Decker, fifth for Duggan and sixth for both Knight and Vetter. Most recently, the U.S. won gold at the 2012 Four Nations in November, defeating Canada, 3-0.

Former Badger Meaghan Mikkelson was named to the Canadian roster earlier in March.

Competition begins Tuesday, April 2, at 6:30 p.m. (CT) with a preliminary-round matchup between the U.S. and Canada. The gold-medal game will be played on Tuesday, April 9, at 6:30 p.m.

All games from the 2013 Women's World Championship will be streamed online for free through FastHockey.com. Registration is required, but is also free.
