Two future Badgers capture JWHL individual awards

MADISON, Wis. -- Incoming freshman Annie Pankowski was recently named the 2013 Junior Women’s Hockey League’s Player of the Year, while her teammate and fellow incoming Badger Jenny Ryan was named the 2013 JWHL Most Outstanding Defenseman.

Both Pankowski and Ryan play for the North American Hockey Academy and helped lead the Winter-Hawks to its fifth JWHL championship on Sunday, March 10.

Pankowski was the leading scorer in the JWHL this season, with 54 goals and 39 assists for 93 points through 27 games conference games.  On the year as a whole, she finished with 104 goals and 81 assists for 185 points through 78 games played for the Winter-Hawks.

Ryan was second only to Pankowski in the JWHL this season with 38 assists through 27 conference games. Earlier this year, Ryan skated with the U.S. Women’s U-18 team at the 2013 IIHF World Women’s U-18 Championship, where the U.S. won silver.

Pankowski and Ryan join former NAHA players and current Badgers Brittany Ammerman and Molly Doner for Wisconsin’s 2013-14 season.
