MADISON, Wis. - Senior Hilary Knight was named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week after she tallied seven points and helped in all six of Wisconsin’s goals in its second of two wins over St. Cloud State last weekend. Knight helped lead Wisconsin to 5-0 and 6-2 wins over the Huskies to earn her second weekly award of the season.
A senior from Sun Valley, Idaho, Knight scored two goals and set up five others for seven points in the Feb. 10-11 series. She factored-in on both game-winning goals, fired 16 shots on goal and earned a +4 plus/minus rating for the weekend.
In Wisconsin's 5-0 victory over the Huskies last Friday, she opened the scoring at 12:12 of the first period with the eventual game-winning goal and put 10 shots on goal.
Last Saturday, Knight had a hand in every goal in the Badgers' 6-2 victory. The weekend sweep clinched a share of the 2011-12 WCHA regular-season championship for the Badgers. She assisted on all four of UW’s first period goals, including teammate Carolyne Prévost's game-winner. She then set up the Badgers' fifth goal in the second period and then her 28th goal of the season in the third period.
With her seven points, she surpassed the 250 mark for career points and now sits fourth all-time in NCAA DI women’s hockey history.
The Badgers will host Ohio State this weekend at the Kohl Center to close out the regular season. Friday’s game will begin at 2 p.m., and Saturday’s game will be aired live on the Big Ten Network at 12:30 p.m. The game on Saturday will also be preceded with a short ceremony honoring the 2012 senior class.
