MADISON, Wis. - The Western Collegiate Hockey Association named Wisconsin freshman Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.) Rookie of the Week for the week of Feb. 3. Decker earned her third honor of the season for her contributions last weekend when she recorded a five-point series and her first collegiate hat trick as the Badgers split with Ohio State from Jan. 29-30.
Decker had a hand in both of Wisconsin's power-play goals with a goal and an assist last Friday night in a 5-4 loss. The Badgers held a 4-3 advantage with less than four minutes remaining.
In the series finale last Saturday, Decker scored all of Wisconsin's goals, including two in the third period, as the Badgers skated to a 3-2 victory over the host Buckeyes to take sole possession of third place in the league standings. In addition to her five points in the series, Decker also fired 15 shots on goal including 11 in the victory. After being sidelined due to injury and therefore only competing in 19 games for the Badgers this season, Decker ranks second on the team in both points (21) and goals (12).
Decker received this award for the first time on Oct. 7 after tallying two goals in UW's 3-0 win over North Dakota on Oct. 3. In addition, the WCHA named Decker the Rookie of the Week for the second time on Dec. 9 after she was credited with two assists in the Badgers 3-1 victory over Minnesota Duluth on Dec. 4 and a goal in the Badgers 2-2 draw with the Bulldogs on Dec. 6.
