MADISON, Wis. -- For the 11th time in her career, senior goaltender Alex Rigsby has been named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
Rigsby was stellar in the net for Wisconsin as the No. 2 Badgers earned a sweep of WCHA-rival Minnesota Duluth last weekend at LaBahn Arena. During the two game set, Rigsby allowed just one goal to the Bulldogs, and stopped 37 of 38 shots on goal for a .974 series save percentage.
The winningest goaltender in University of Wisconsin women’s hockey program history with 94 career victories, Rigsby also earned her 27th career shutout last Sunday.
Rigsby leads the nation in goals against average (0.96) and save percentage (.959) and she holds an 11-2-2 record this year. This marks the third time Rigsby has been honored by the league this year for her outstanding defense.
Rigsby and the rest of the Badgers are off this week before they travel to Columbus, Ohio, to take on Ohio State on Feb. 7-8.
