MADISON, Wis. -- In preparation for this weekend's game against North Dakota, UWBadgers.com caught up with senior Brianna Decker to get her take on the Badgers' matchup against UND at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Q. How important was if for the team to start the new year with a sweep of Ohio State?
Decker: I think we've improved a lot from when we played them in November. To come out in the first weekend back of league play and get two wins is huge for us.
Q. What's the mood of the team like getting ready for a road trip having not traveled since early December?
Decker: We're excited to be on the road, it will be nice not having to worry about school while on a road trip. We can just focus on hockey and worry about getting a couple of `W's.
Q. How does the team's preparation for North Dakota change, if at all, having just played them right before break?
Decker: We know their strengths and weaknesses. We just need to play our game and worry about ourselves. We'll be successful if we just go out there and play hard and be physical.
Q. Having touched on what the team needs to do this weekend, what are some more specifics the team should focus on to get two wins against UND?
Decker: We have to go to the net hard and shoot the puck a lot. I think we can expose their defenseman with our speed. Hopefully, we can get a lot of point shots, screening the goalie, and that's how we'll be successful.
Q. This is potentially the last time you and the Lamoureux's will on the ice together, but on opposite sides. Does that give the series any extra meaning for you?
Decker: Not anything extra. It's always a competitive game when I play them. We're friends off the ice, but on the ice we're nothing but opponents. I enjoy playing them every time. It's competitive and physical, and I think we enjoy that about playing against each other.
Puck drop for the weekend's games is set for 7 p.m., both Friday and Saturday. The games will be televised on Midcontinent Communication's Midco Sports Net.
