MADISON, Wis. -- Three former Wisconsin women’s hockey players have been invited to train at the Canadian National Women’s Team training camp, Hockey Canada announced on Monday.
Meaghan Mikkelson, Carolyne Prévost, and Bobbi-Jo Slusar are the three Badgers invited to the camp, which is being held Jan. 20-25 in Ottawa, Ontario.
Both Mikkelson and Slusar were a part of the Canadian squad that took silver at the 2012 Four Nations Cup, Nov. 6-10. Prévost just finished competing with the Canadian U-22 squad that won gold at the 2013 Meco Cup, Jan. 2-6. All three were part of the Canadian Women’s National Team Fall Festival, which was held Sept. 24-28.
The winter camp features 16 players who won gold medals at the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship in Burlington, Vt., and 11 members of the gold medal-winning team from the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
The camp will serve as an evaluation opportunity for Canada’s National Women’s Team coaching staff and Hockey Canada scouting staff for the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Players will continue to be evaluated with their club teams during the 2012-13 season.
The 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship will take place April 2-9 in Ottawa.
