Three Wisconsin women's hockey players, including one former Badger, medaled in their respective tournaments with Team Canada over the Jan. 5-6 weekend in Europe.

Sydney McKibbon and Sarah Nurse were part of the Canadian squad that defeated the U.S. for gold at the 2013 IIHF World Women's U-18 Championship in Finland, while Jenny Ryan was skating with Team USA. Former Badger Carolyne Prévost won gold with the Canadian Women's U-22 team at the 2013 Meco Cup in Germany.

After starting off the World Championships with a perfect 3-0 record, both the U.S. and Canada cruised through their semifinal games to advance to the gold medal game on Saturday, Jan. 5. Canada downed Sweden, 7-2, in the semifinals, while Ryan assisted on two goals in USA's 10-0 win over the Czech Republic.

In the gold medal game on Jan. 5, Ryan scored on the power play within the finals minutes of the first period to open the scoring. However, Canada tied the game late in the third period to send the game into overtime, where the Canadians scored the game-winner.

In all, Ryan finished the tournament with two goals and three assists, while Nurse finished with one goal.

At the Meco Cup in Germany, Prévost recorded Canada's second goal in a 2-0 win over Finland in the prelims on Jan. 5. She followed up her performance on Jan. 6 with an empty net goal to help secure an 8-3 victory over Russia for the gold medal. The win returned the Meco Cup championship to the Canadians after they settled for Bronze in 2012.
