COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Senior assistant captain Brooke Ammerman scored both goals and sophomore goaltender Alex Rigsby made 30 saves as the Wisconsin women’s hockey team skated past the Ohio State Buckeyes, 2-0, on Saturday night at the OSU Ice Rink.

Wisconsin improves to 11-1-0 (7-1-0-0 WCHA) on the season, while Ohio State drops to 5-4-1 (5-4-1-1 WCHA). The Badgers sit in second place in the conference standings, just three points behind Minnesota.

 Fast Facts
Brianna Decker has recorded at least one point in the past 22 games

With 30 saves in the contest, Rigsby records her second shutout of the season. She also assisted on the first goal of the game to pick up her first collegiate point. On the weekend, the sophomore netminder made a total of 55 saves, only concede one goal, and helped the Badgers’ penalty kill remain a perfect 8-8.

In another high-tempo game, the Buckeyes came out with a strong forecheck. Like the night before, the Badgers got on the board first. With less than five minutes remaining in the first period while on a power play, Hilary Knight connected with Ammerman on a long stretch pass that put her on a semi-breakaway. The Ohio State goalie, Chelsea Knapp, exposed the right side of the net and Ammerman sniped it past Knapp’s glove for her eighth goal of the season. Rigsby was credited with the first assist as she helped collect the puck for Knight.

After getting out-worked in the second period on Friday, the Badgers looked to keep their momentum going in the second frame on Saturday. Wisconsin did just that as Ammerman found the net for a second time off a scramble in front of the OSU net. Brianna Decker played the puck in from the side boards and Ammerman was able to bang home a loose puck with Knapp out of position. Senior Carolyne Prévost was credited with the second assist.

After two periods of play the Badgers were out-shooting the Buckeyes 20-14. However, that wouldn’t last as the Buckeyes came out storming in the third period. Fortunately, Rigsby rose to the occasion and make 16 saves in the period as Wisconsin weathered the storm to hang on to the 2-0 win. UW was assessed four penalties in the third period alone and Rigsby made nine saves on the penalty kill.

The Badgers will have a bye week for the Four Nations Cup next week. Wisconsin will return to the ice on Nov. 18 with a road trip to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
