BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Wisconsin women’s hockey team finished off the regular season with six-consecutive wins, defeating Bemidji State, 3-1, Saturday evening at the Sanford Center.

Wisconsin finishes the regular season with a conference record of 17-9-2-2 (21-9-2 overall) and ends in a tie for second place in the WCHA with North Dakota. Wisconsin owns the tie breaker, giving the Badgers the second seed for conference playoffs. Bemidji State finishes with a 5-22-1-0 conference record (6-24-2 overall).
The Badgers used one goal per period to down the Beavers, as Kelly Jaminski scored the first one and assisted on the second, while Brianna Decker added the insurance goal in the third period.
UW netminder Alex Rigsby recorded 29 saves in the game, conceding only one goal over the weekend.
Jaminski opened the scoring with 21 seconds remaining in the first period. The Badgers dominated play in the opening frame, out-shooting the Beavers 11-6. The goal capped off the lop-sided period as Jaminski roofed the puck off the crossbar and in to beat BSU’s goaltender Jessica Havel.
Bemidji State’s Emily Erickson tied the game early in the second period while on a two-on-one chance. Fortunately, Jaminski set up UW’s second goal seven minutes later.
Jaminski entered the offensive zone and took a shot on net. Havel made the first save, but Katy Josephs followed up on the rebound to give the Badgers back the lead. The goal was the fourth of the season for the sophomore forward.
In the third period, Brianna Decker notched the Badgers’ final goal at the 7:44 mark to give Wisconsin a 3-1 lead. Decker used a BSU defenseman as a screen to slip the puck into the back of the net for her 27th goal of the season and her 239th career point.
With the goal, Decker surpassed Meghan Duggan for second-most career points at UW and extended her point streak to seven games.
Wisconsin was unable to take advantage of any of its three power-play opportunities in the game, but was perfect on the penalty kill, denying all four of Bemidji State’s power plays.
The Badgers return home to LaBahn Arena on March 1-2, hosting St. Cloud State in a best-of-three series for the first round of WCHA playoffs. Friday and Saturday’s game will begin at 7 p.m., and a third game on Sunday, March 3, will be played at 4 p.m., if necessary.
