MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women's golf team tees off at its final event of the fall season, when the Badgers travel to Las Vegas, Nev., for the 54-hole Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown on Sunday-Tuesday, Oct. 27-29.
2013 Las Vegas Participants: Denver, Fresno State, Furman, Idaho, Kansas State, Long Beach State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, Reno, New Mexico, San Diego State, Texas Tech, UC Irvine, UCF, UNLV and Wisconsin.
UW will compete against a 17-team field at the competition hosted by UNLV at the 6,230-yard, Par 72 Stallion Mountain Golf Club. Tee times start at 9:30 a.m. (CT) on Sunday and Monday, while a shotgun start begins at 9:45 a.m. (CT) on Tuesday.
Last year, the Badgers closed out their 2012 fall season at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown with an eighth-place finish. Kris Yoo led Wisconsin in scoring, tying for 14th with a 7-over par 73-76-74--223.
Yoo will represent Wisconsin this weekend, along with junior Kimberly Dinh, senior Alyssa Elliott and senior Alexis Nelson.
Coming off of a third-place finish at the Diane Thomason Invitational, Wisconsin is the third-highest ranked team of the field. UW stands at No. 34 on the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, while UCF comes in at No. 22 and Denver sits at No. 31.
The Badgers earned their top-three finish at the event held at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa, on Oct. 12-13 with a 43-over par 304-305-298--907.
Freshman Brooke Ferrell led Wisconsin, tallying a 9-over par 75-80-70--225. Ferrell had her best collegiate finish as a Badger tying for fourth.
Ferrell will compete for UW at the season-closing event, along with fellow freshman Michelle Cheung.
Competing as an individual, Cheung made her collegiate tournament debut at the Diane Thomason Invitational tying for 47th place with a 21-over par 81-81-75--237.
