MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women's golf team returns to competition this weekend, when the Badgers travel to the Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa, for the Diane Thomason Invitational on Oct. 12-13.
The Badgers will compete against a 12-team field at the two-day, 54-hole tournament at the 6,212-yard, Par 72 course. The first and second rounds will be played on Saturday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., while the final round will take place on Sunday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
Participating Teams: Campbell, Chattanooga, GRU Augusta, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan, Middle Tennessee, Ohio State, USF, Wisconsin
Wisconsin enters this weekend coming off of a big win at the Lady Paladin Invitational at the Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C., on Sept. 20-22. UW recorded a record-setting win at event, finishing with a UW 54-hole record 1-over par 290-294-281--865.
The Badgers' new 54-hole record of 865 broke the previous record of 870 which was set in 2009 at the Challenge of Onion Creek in Austin, Tex.
Senior Kris Yoo and freshman Brooke Ferrell will compete for Wisconsin this weekend.
At the Lady Paladin Invitational, Yoo and Ferrell both placed in the top-5. Yoo tied for third place with a 3-under par 73-70-70--213, which is her 54-hole career low and tied the school 54-hole record set in 2012 by Lindsay Danielson. Yoo earned her first Big Ten Conference weekly golf honor on Sept. 25 after her impressive performance.
Ferrell tallied a 2-under par 72-74-68--214 placing fifth. Her score of 214 is a 54-hole career best, while her third-round score of 68 is an 18-hole career low and ties for a sixth best 18-hole score in school records.
Additionally, freshman Michelle Cheung will make her collegiate debut, along with junior Kimberly Dinh, junior Aaren Ziegler and senior Alexis Nelson.
