Wisconsin to compete in Lady Paladin Invitational this weekend

MADISON, Wis.  The Wisconsin women’s golf team returns to competition this weekend, when the Badgers travel to the Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C., for the Lady Paladin Invitational on Sept. 20-22.

UW will compete against 16 schools at the three-day, 54-hole tournament at the 6,266-yard, Par 72 course. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. CT on Friday and Saturday, while a shotgun start is scheduled for Sunday at 8 a.m. CT.

Participating Teams:  Clemson, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Florida State, Furman, George Regents, Georgia State, Houston, Kennessaw State, Nova Southeastern, Samford, Southern Miss, Texas A&M, UNC Wilmington, UNC Greensboro, Wisconsin, Wofford

UW opened the season with a top-10 finish at the 11th annual Cougar Classic on Sept. 8-10 in Charleston, S.C. Wisconsin finished in 10th place with a 20-over par 298-292-294—884. UW faced a tough field which included several top-ranked teams from the Golf World/WGCA Coaches’ Preseason Division I Poll including No. 10 Florida, No. 20 NC State, No. 22 LSU and No. 24 Baylor.

The Badgers finished ahead of both LSU and Baylor, with LSU taking 11th (295-291-301--887) and Baylor placing 12th (289-299-300--888).

Wisconsin’s Kimberly Dinh heads into this weekend’s invitational as the Badger to beat. The junior finished first for UW at the Cougar Classic behind a 10th-place finish with a 54-hole score of 73-69-74--216, which tied her career low. Additionally, Dinh set an 18-hole career low of 69 and tied her 36-hole career low of 142.

In addition to Dinh, senior Kris Yoo, freshman Brooke Ferrell and junior Aaren Ziegler will travel for Wisconsin for the second straight competition.

Yoo finished second for the Badgers at their season opener and tied for 30th overall with a 4-over par 74-72-74--220, while Ziegler tied for 76th with a 15-over par 75-76-80--231.

Playing in her collegiate tourney debut, Ferrell was the third finisher for Wisconsin, placing 46th overall with a 7-over par 76-75-72--223.

Freshman Aya Johnson and senior Alexis Nelson round out UW's travel roster for the event.
