MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women’s golf team is set to compete April 14-15 at the Silverado Showdown in Napa, Calif.
The 54-hole tournament will be held on the par-72 North Course at the Silverado Resort and Spa. The event, hosted by the University of Colorado and the University of Oregon, features a competitive 15-team field. Many of the nation’s top-ranked teams on the GolfWeek/Sagarin Rankings will compete, including No. 1 Southern California and No. 8 Arizona.
2014 Field: No. 8 Arizona, No. 35 California, Colorado, Fresno State, New Mexico, No. 12 Northwestern, No. 34 Oregon, Oregon State, No. 42 San Diego State, San Jose State, No. 1 Southern California, No. 45 UNLV, Washington, Washington State, No. 46 Wisconsin
Competition tees off with 36 holes on Monday and concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday. Both days will begin with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. CT.
Traveling for the 46th-ranked Badgers will be senior Kris Yoo, redshirt senior Alexis Nelson, redshirt junior Kimberly Dinh, junior Aaren Ziegler and freshman Brooke Ferrell.
Wisconsin is coming off an eighth place finish at the Briar’s Creek Invitational held in John’s Island, S.C., March 24-25. UW recorded a 43-over par 309-303-295--907 to finish in the top in the 17-team field.
UW has placed in the top 10 in all eight of its tournaments this season, including a win at the Lady Paladin Invitational in Greenville, S.C., on Sept 20-22, and three third-place finishes.
Wisconsin heads into the event with an 18-hole season average of 297.17 (6,835 strokes/23 rounds). The Badgers are on-pace to break UW’s 18-hole average record of 302.93 (9,694/32) set in 2009-10.
Nelson is leading Wisconsin individually with her 18-hole average of 73.85 strokes (1477/20). Yoo is averaging 74.56 (1715/23), while Ferrell has an average of 75.17 (1729/23).
