MADISON, Wis. -- As the harsh winter weather fades and spring shows signs of promise, the Wisconsin women’s golf team prepares for another season, beginning with a dual vs. Indiana Feb. 18 in Parish, Fla.

The spring 2012 season comes on the heels of a fall campaign that saw many new faces, lower scores among the senior ranks and a second-consecutive Badger Invitational title.

Wisconsin competed in five fall tournaments, with the team’s best finish coming at home in the annual Badger Invitational at University Ridge. With a score of 908, 10 strokes ahead of second place SMU, Wisconsin claimed the team crown for the second year in a row.

Senior Jessie Gerry also posted the top individual finish and lowest individual score for a Badger in the fall season at the invitational finishing second, with a season-low 221. Junior Lindsay Danielson finished third in the tournament with a +1, 226 while freshman Dana Voss posted the sixth-lowest score at +17, 233.

Gerry posted the top individual score for the Badgers in all but one tournament last fall, including a 16th place finish at the Lady Northern in French Lick, Ind. and a 12th place finish at the Susie Berning Maxwell Classic in Norman, Okla.

Gerry also showed some of the best improvement on the team, finishing the fall 2011 season with a 74.66 strokes per round average, 3.44 lower than her 2010-11 season average.

After posting the top finish for the Badgers in the team’s first tournament, Danielson finished second for the team in all but the final invitational of the year.  Danielson also posted the team’s best individual single-round score, a 69 in the first round of the Badger Invitational.

Four Badgers saw their first playing time last fall: Abby Busler, Kimberly Dinh, Aaren Ziegler and Voss.

The spring 2011 schedule kicks off with an opening dual against Indiana on Feb. 18, followed by four invitationals and then finally the Big Ten Championship.

The Badgers host the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Az. Feb. 26-27 before heading to Pepperdine Calif. the next week for the Bruin/ Wave Invitational from March 5-6.

Wisconsin then rounds out invitational play with two tournaments in Florida, beginning with the Sun Trust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. from March 16-18, and finishing with the Knights and Pirates Invitational from April 9-10 in Melbourne, Fla.

The Big Ten will then converge on French Lick, Ind., April 27-29 for the Big Ten Championship. The NCAA Regional Championship will be played May 10-12, followed by the NCAA Championship May 22-25.
