Nelson tied for second place after day one of Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Led by senior Alexis Nelson, the Wisconsin women’s golf team teed off to a strong start on Sunday at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in Las Vegas, Nev.

Nelson closed out day one tied for second place with a 1-under par 71 at he 54-hole, three-day competition at the 6,230-yard, Par 72 Stallion Mountain Golf Club .

Texas Tech’s Elin Arvidsson sits atop the leaderboard with a 2-under par 70. Host team UNLV leads the 17-team field with an even par 288, while Minnesota and San Diego State are tied for second with a 2-over par 290.

The Badgers are 11th after 18 holes with a 10-over par 298.

Freshman Brooke Ferrell is tied for 21st with a 1-over par 73. Senior Kris Yoo finished with a 2-over par 74, tying for 31st.

Junior Kimberly Dinh is tied for 84th with an 8-over par 80, while senior Alyssa Elliott rounds out the Badgers roster tied for 86th with a 9-over par 81.

Competing as an individual, UW freshman Michelle Cheung is also tied for 86th along with Elliott, with a 9-over par 81.

Competition continues on Monday with tee times starting at 9:30 a.m. (CT), while a shotgun start begins at 9:45 a.m. (CT) on Tuesday.
