Las Vegas -- An impressive opening-round effort by the Wisconsin women’s golf team had them beginning the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown on Sunday where they had left off last weekend in Indiana, sitting atop the leader board.

Competing on the par 72, 6,230-yard Stallion Mountain Golf Club, the Badgers combined to score a 4-over par 292 and end the first day of the 54-hole tournament in a tie for first place with familiar face, Indiana.

It was just last weekend that the Badgers closed a 12-stroke lead on the Hoosiers to claim the Hoosier Fall Invitational team title. The Big Ten foes may make it a two-team battle yet again, after opening a seven-stroke gap on the 15 other teams in the field.

The opening-round score was Wisconsin's best start to a tournament since the season-opening round at the Cougar Classic.

The duo of Lindsay Danielson and Alexis Nelson led the way for the Badgers individually, as both ended in a tie for third place with an even-par 72.

Fresh off her career-best performance and individual title last weekend at the Hoosier Fall Invitational, Danielson carded a consistent first round with a pair of birdies and a pair of bogeys. Off to a tougher start, Nelson began with a double bogey on the front nine, but came back strong and compensated with four birdies and just two bogeys throughout.

Elizabeth Tong of Indiana leads all individual golfers after shooting a 2-under par 70, while Ally McDonald of Mississippi State sits in second with her 1-under par 71.

Just a stroke behind her teammates Danielson and Nelson, Kris Yoo got her tournament off to a nice start with a 1-over par 73 to tie for seventh place. Kimberly Dinh sits in a tie for 23rd place with a 3-over par 75 and Aaren Ziegler came in a tie for 29th place with her 4-over par 76.

Competition resumes tomorrow from Las Vegas with a 9:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun start. Live stats can be found at GolfStat.com.
