Wisconsin earns third-place finish at Diane Thomason Invitational

– The Badgers continued their strong start to the fall season on Sunday by finishing third at the the 54-hole Diane Thomason Invitational held at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa. UW earned its top-three finish with a 43-over par 304-305-298--907.

After leading the field on Saturday, Illinois stayed atop the leaderboard after the final 18 holes on Sunday, winning with an 11-over par 299-301-299--899. Kansas finished second with a 15-over par 303-298-303--904 at the 6,212-yard, Par 72 course.

Illinois' Stephanie Miller claimed the individual championship with a 3-under par 74-70-69--213. Kansas’ Yupaporn Kawinpakorn placed second with a 7-over par 78-70-75--223 and Ohio State’s Jessica Porvasnik took third place with an 8-over par 74-73-76--224.

Wisconsin freshman Brooke Ferrell led the Badgers, finishing with a 9-over par 75-80-70--225. Ferrell had her best collegiate finish as a Badger tying for fourth place and was one of only two players to finish under par on Sunday.

UW seniors Kris Yoo and Alexis Nelson tied for 11th place. Yoo recorded a 12-over par 75-76-77--228, while Nelson earned a 12-over par 76-79-73--228.

Additionally, junior Kimberly Dinh tied for 21st place after tallying a 15-over par 78-75-78--231. Junior Aaren Ziegler rounded out the team scoring tying for 34th with a 16-over par 81-75-79--235.

Competing as an individual in her collegiate tournament debut, freshman Michelle Cheung improved in her final round from a tie for 62nd to 47th place with a 21-over par 81-81-75--237.

Wisconsin returns to competition on Oct. 27-29, when it travels to Las Vegas, Nev., for the Las Vegas Collegiate at the Stallion Mountain Golf Course.
