. – The Wisconsin women’s golf team capped off its first tournament of the 2013 fall season with a strong final round to place 10th at the 54-hole Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall in Charleston, S.C.

The University of Florida was crowned tournament champion for the second straight season after shooting a 5-under par 291-287-281--859 at the 6,204-yard, Par 72 course. The Gators are only the second team in tournament history to win back-to-back titles.

Florida claimed the win behind Anna Young, who took home the individual title with her 5-under par 73-71-67--211.

In its first-ever tournament, Clemson University — which is competing in its inaugural season — placed second with a 4-under par 285-282-293--860. College of Charleston rounded out the top-three finishers with a 3-under par 289-285-287--861, while NC State took fourth with a 1-under 287-287-289--863.

The Badgers recorded their top-10 finish with a 20-over par 298-292-294--884 and proved they are capable of competing with some of the nation’s best.

The tournament featured several top-ranked teams from the Golf World/WGCA Coaches’ Preseason Division I Poll including No. 10 Florida, No. 20 NC State, No. 22 LSU and No. 24 Baylor. Of the 20 teams competing, 15 were represented at the 2013 NCAA Regionals.

Both LSU and Baylor finished behind Wisconsin, with LSU taking 11th (295-291-301--887) and Baylor placing 12th (289-299-300--888).

Individually, UW’s Kimberly Dinh recorded a top-10 finish behind a 54-hole score of 216, which ties her career low. The junior tied for 10th with a par 73-69-74--216.

Senior Kris Yoo finished second for the Badgers and tied for 30th overall with a 4-over par 74-72-74--220.

Playing in her collegiate tourney debut, freshman Brooke Ferrell was the third finisher for UW behind a strong third round performance of 72, placing 46th overall with a 7-over par 76-75-72—223.

Junior Aaren Ziegler tied for 76th with a 15-over par 75-76-80--231, while senior Alyssa Elliott finished in a tie for 83rd with a 17-over par 79-80-74--233.

The Badgers return home with a week of preparation before traveling to the Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C., for the Lady Paladin Invitational on Sept. 20-22.
