Badgers in ninth place after day two of NCAA West Regional

CLE ELUM, Wash. -- With one round to go for a trip to the national championships, the Wisconsin women's golf team is in ninth place with a 30-over par 301-305--606 after day two of the 54-hole NCAA West Regional held at the par-72, 6,252-yard Tumble Creek Club at the Suncadia Resort in Cle, Elum, Wash.

The top eight teams will advance to the NCAA Championship May 20-23 at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.

The Badgers closed out the first round on Thursday in ninth place and overcame tough weather conditions on Friday to stay in ninth place among the 24-team field through 36 holes of play. UW is in prime position heading into Saturday's final 18 holes to qualify for its second-straight NCAA Championship.

“Despite very challenging weather, we're in a good position heading into the final round,” UW head coach Todd Oehrlein said. “We've remained composed throughout the rounds and have competed positively both days.”

No. 1-ranked Southern California (284-294) sits atop the leaderboard tied with Arizona State (289-289), both at 2-over par 578. Host Washington is in third place with 4-over par 288-292--580.

Individually, Southern Cal's Kyung Kim (66-74) and Washington’s SooBin Kim (70-70) lead the 126-player field with 4-under par 140. Arizona State’s Moemi Jimenez (67-74) and Texas A&M’s Marijosse Navarro (67-74) are tied for third place with 3-under par 141.

Leading the way for the Badgers after round two is senior Kris Yoo. Yoo is tied for 16th place with 4-over par 73-75--148, while senior Alexis Nelson is one stroke back tied at 20th with 5-over par 72-77. Junior Aaren Ziegler is tied for 25th after shooting 6-over par 74-76--150.

Freshman Brooke Ferrell improved in the second round and is tied for 87th at 15-over par 82-77--159 and Kimberly Dinh rounds out the Badgers’ roster tied for 106th with 18-over par 82-80--162.

“I'm very proud of how we've played and tomorrow should be a very exciting and competitive day,” Oehrlein said.
