COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Behind four top-25 individual finishes, the University of Wisconsin women’s golf team concluded its first day of competition in fifth place Saturday at the Lady Buckeye Invitatonal in Columbus, Ohio.

Competing on the Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University Golf Club, the Badgers shot a 36-hole 44-over par 317-303=620 after the first day of the 54-hole tournament.

No. 14 Purdue scored a 29-over par 310-295=605 to earn the first-day lead. No. 27 Michigan State was just a stroke behind in second place with its 30-over par 308-298=606, while No. 31 Northwestern finished two back at 31-over par 310-297=607.

Laura Gonzalez of Purdue finished the first day in the leader position, after the senior shot a 73-73=146 over the first two rounds to finish at just 2-over par. Liz Nagel (75-73=148) of Michigan State and Elizabeth Szokol (77-71=148) of Northwestern tied for runner-up after each carded 4-over par.

For Wisconsin, Kris Yoo led the way individually by shooting a 9-over par 78-75=153 to enter the clubhouse in a tie for eighth place. The junior from Schaumburg, Ill., grinded through her first round 78 that included six bogeys and a double bogey, then battled back with a second round 75 by stroking three birdies to six bogeys.

Also working her way back with a strong second-round score was teammate Linsday Danielson, who shot an 11-over par 80-75=155 to come in a tie for 17th place. The senior from Osceola, Wis., recorded five bogeys and two double bogeys over her first round, but countered with made two birdies to just five bogeys through her second round.

Kimberly Dinh (79-77=156) and Alexis Nelson (80-76=156) each recorded 12-over par scores to finish in a tie for 22nd place, while Abby Busler came in a tie for 52nd individually with her 19-over par 80-83=163.

Tee times for tomorrow’s final round have been changed to 9 a.m. CT due to heavy frost that is expected in the morning.
