Wisconsin in ninth through first day at Dallas Athletic Club Invitational

DALLAS -- The SMU/Dallas Athletic Club Invitational teed off today with the first round of competition, as the University of Wisconsin women's golf team finished the day in ninth place among the 15-team field competing in Dallas at the Dallas Athletic Club.

In the 54-hole tournament, which runs through Sunday, Kansas State took the team lead after shooting a 6-over par 294. The Wildcats topped a field that includes seven teams ranked in the top 50 of the GolfWeek rankings. The runner-up was No. 4 Oklahoma, which carded a 7-over par 295, while No. 35 Denver rounded out the top 3 with an 8-over par 296.

With Kimberly Dinh, Lindsay Danielson, Alexis Nelson, Kris Yoo and Aaren Ziegler competing for Wisconsin, the Badgers finished the day in ninth place with a combined score of 28-over par 316.

Dinh led the way in individual scoring finishing in a tie for 14th place, after the sophomore from Midland, Mich., recorded a 3-over par 75. Nelson, who contributed a team-high three birdies on the day, but also recorded six bogeys and two double bogeys finished third for UW at 8-over par 80 in a tie for 41st place.

Yoo finished in a tie for 38th place with a 7-over par 79; Ziegler recorded a 10-over par 82 to tie for 54th place and Danielson was right behind with her 11-over par 83 to finish in a tie for 60th place.

The nation's No. 15 golfer, Chirapat Jao-Javanil, of Oklahoma ended the first round atop the individual leaderboard, after the junior from Hua-Hin, Thailand, carded a 3-under par 69 with six birdies to just three bogeys through the first round.

Tournament play resumes with 18 holes tomorrow and tee times beginning at 8 a.m. CT. All five Badgers in competition will begin their second rounds within the first hour, beginning with Danielson and the first group at 8 a.m.
