Badgers record top-10 finish at Briar's Creek Invitational

-- The Wisconsin women’s golf team closed out play at the Briar’s Creek Invitational in John’s Island, S.C., on Tuesday, tying for eighth place with a 43-over par 309-303-295--907. The Badgers wrapped up the 54-hole tournament at Briar’s Creek Golf Club with a third round 7-over par 18-hole score of 295.

The 17-team field was led by Texas Tech, who claimed the team title with a 24-over par 299-303-286--888. Penn State took second with a 28-over par 309-294-289--892, while East Carolina rounded out the top-three teams with a 30-over par 294-306-294--894.

Individually, Penn State’s Christina Vosters was crowned champion after recording a 1-under par 72-75-68--215. Three players -- South Florida’s Ashley Burke (75-72-70), Maryland’s Alexandria Papell (71-74-72) and Costal Carolina’s Lena Schaeffner (74-75-68) -- tied for second place, tallying a 1-over par 217.

Leading the way for Wisconsin for the second time this season was redshirt junior Kimberly Dinh, who tied for 18th place among the 93-player field with an 8-over par 76-75-73--224. Dinh led in the season opener tying for 10th at Cougar Classic with 216.

Redshirt senior Alexis Nelson (73-76-77) tied for 27th along with teammate Kris Yoo (80-76-70) with a 10-over par 226. Yoo’s 70 in the final round tied the fourth best 18-hole score of the final round, behind a 67, a pair of 68s and another 70.

Junior Aaren Ziegler tied for 46th with a 15-over par 80-76-75--231, while freshman Brooke Ferrell rounded out UW’s scoring roster with a 23-over par 82-80-77--239.

Playing as an individual, freshman Michelle Cheung shot a career 36-hole and 54-hole best for the tournament and recorded her career-best tournament finish, tying for 33rd with a 12-over par 74-76-78--228. Senior Alyssa Elliott also competed as an individual, tying for 84th with a 33-over par 79-91-79--249.

The Badgers now have a couple weeks off from competition before competing in the Silverado Showdown in Napa, Calif., on April 14-15.
