MADISON, Wis. - When the Wisconsin women's baketball team travels to Green Bay on Sunday, it will be looking for the title of the best Division I team in the state of Wisconsin, its first since 2008. The Badgers (7-3) and Phoenix (7-2) tip off at 7 p.m. at Kress Events Center in Green Bay, Wis.
Wisconsin enters Sunday's game with a 2-0 mark against the other Division I teams in the state. UW downed Marquette 71-68 on Dec. 5 and opened the season with a 74-56 victory over Milwaukee on Nov. 11.
Green Bay downed Marquette, 55-46, in Milwaukee on Dec. 8, the only common opponent between Wisconsin and the Phoenix this season. GB will also play Milwaukee twice during Horizon League play in 2013 while Marquette and Milwaukee do not play each other this season.
The Badgers have won their last four games, UW's longest victory streak since winning five straight Dec. 9, 2010 - Jan. 2, 2011. Wisconsin’s 7-3 start is the best since 2009-10 when the team was 8-2 though 10 games.
Even more impressive is the fact that the Badgers need only two more wins to equal their victory total from last year. UW was 9-20 in Coach Bobbie Kelsey’s first season.
Sunday's game kicks off a four-game road swing to wrap up 2012 and kick off the New Year. UW competes in the Miami Holiday Invitational in Miami, Fla., on Dec. 28-29, before opening Big Ten Conference play at Nebraska on Jan. 2.
Injury Update: Sophomore AnnMarie Brown injured her knee in Tuesday's practice and will miss up to six weeks.
