MADISON, Wis. – For the first time in four years, the Wisconsin women’s basketball team has a Big Ten Conference Player of the Week. Sophomore Jacki Gulczynski picks up her first Big Ten weekly honor, sharing the award with Aulani Sinclair of Indiana.
Gulczynski, a 6-1 forward from Carol Stream, Ill., posted back-to-back double-doubles last week, setting career highs in points and rebounds in consecutive games.
Gulczynski started the week off strong, picking up her first career double-double with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds against Florida Atlantic on Dec. 10. She scored four of the Badgers’ 13 points in overtime to help secure the 82-73 win. Gulczynski also added three assists and one block in a career-high 38 minutes of play.
Against Eastern Illinois on Dec. 15, Gulczynski scored Wisconsin's first 11 points and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the field to start the game. She finished with career and game-highs of 24 points and 13 rebounds, her second consecutive double-double, while adding three assists and two blocks in the 76-47 win.
On the week, Gulczynski averaged 20 points per game while shooting 55.6 percent from the field. She was a perfect 4-for-4 from the line. In addition, the sophomore averaged 12 rebounds, three assists and 1.5 blocks per game.
Gulczynski’s honor is the second for the Badgers this season, as freshman Nicole Bauman was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Dec. 10.
Wisconsin closes out the year with a three-game road swing, traveling to Green Bay on Dec. 23 for a 7 p.m. game against the Phoenix before traveling to Miami, Fla., for the Miami Holiday Invitational Dec. 28-29.
