MADISON, Wis. – Lindsay Smith, a sophomore on the University of Wisconsin women’s basketball team, has elected to transfer and will leave the team immediately, head coach Bobbie Kelsey announced today.
Smith, a 5-10 guard from DeWitt, Iowa, played in 32 games in her career, starting two as a freshman. She averaged 1.6 points and 1.3 rebounds per game as a Badger.
"We are sad to see Lindsay leave our program, however she felt she needed to explore other options to gain more playing time,” said Kelsey. “She was a very hard worker and smart player for us. I have no doubt she will be able to contribute to a program that fits her abilities. We wish Lindsay nothing but the best."
As a freshman, Smith averaged 9.3 minutes per game, scoring 1.8 points per game and pulling down 1.5 rebounds per game. She scored a career-high six points at Colorado on Nov. 26, 2011, playing a career-best 22 minutes. Smith also had career bests of six rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block during Big Ten Conference play.
This season, Smith played in six games, averaging 2.3 minutes per game. She scored three points and pulled down one rebound in the Badgers’ season-opening game vs. Milwaukee on Nov. 11.
