Here are some notes to know on all the teams:

Wisconsin:

  • The Badgers take to the road for only the second time this season. Wisconsin played on the road at Milwaukee on Nov. 19, coming away with a 64-55 win. UW plays its next six games on the road before returning home on Dec. 13.

  • UW has had a lot of success over the Thanksgiving weekend the last three seasons. The Badgers have picked up two tournament titles during that stretch. In 2008, Wisconsin won the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands with a perfect 3-0 record, upsetting No. 5 Baylor in the championship game. In 2007, UW won one game at the Pepperdine Classic before the tournament was cancelled due to wildfires. In 2006, the Badgers won the Lady Rebel Shootout with a 2-0 mark, downing Kansas State and UNLV.

  • Wisconsin is off to a 3-1 start for the second straight year. In 2008-09, UW lost its season-opener at South Dakota State before winning its next 10 games.

  • Wisconsin shares the Big Ten lead with Ohio State for rebounding defense, giving up only 33.0 rebounds per game. On the season, Wisconsin is averaging 33.5 rebounds per game. Juniors Tara Steinbauer and Lin Zastrow lead the team with 5.8 rebounds per game.

Portland State:

  • Portland State is out to a 2-2 start to its season, winning its first two games against Washington (67-66) and Western Oregon (75-65) but dropped its last two at Boise State (92-80) and Portland (75-71).

  • Three Portland State players are averaging double figures. Claire Faucher leads the team with 16.0 points per game while Kelly Marchant adds 13.0 points per game.

  • This is the first meeting between the two teams. The Vikings went 23-10 last year, making it to the WNIT second round and three starters return from last year’s squad.

Oregon:

  • Oregon is host of the 2009 World Vision Invitational. The Ducks are out to a 3-0 start, with wins over Eastern Washington (86-48), Montana (86-71) and Santa Clara (88-71).

  • The Ducks are a high-powered offense, averaging 86.6 points per game. Nicole Canepa leads the way with a 18.0 points per game average.

  • This will be just the third meeting in school history with the series tied 1-1. Oregon won the last game, 71-57 on Nov. 18, 2000.

  • Oregon head coach Paul Westhead joined the team in March 2009 after coaching the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury. He is the only head coach to win a championship in both the NBA (Los Angeles Lakers) and WNBA.

Cal State Fullerton:

  • Cal State Fullerton is 2-1 on the season with wins over San Jose State (79-77), Sacramento State (90-68) and lost last Friday 71-63 to San Francisco.

  • Megan Richardson, a a 5-10 sophomore guard, leads the Titans with 21.3 points per game.

  • This is the first meeting between the two teams and the Titans are under the direction of first-year head coach Marcia Foster.
