MADISON, Wis. – Head women’s basketball coach Bobbie Kelsey has announced that freshman Makailah Dyer, a 5-10 guard from Madison, Wis., has asked to transfer and will leave the Badger program effective immediately.
“She wanted to pursue an opportunity to have more playing time, to get more playing time,’’ Kelsey explained. “She was in a tough position here with several other guards on the roster. We wish her nothing but the best.”
Kelsey explained that Dyer and her mother, former Badger Janet (Huff) Dyer, spoke to her last week about the prospect of transferring.
Dyer did not play in the UW’s season-opening game against Milwaukee on Nov. 11 due to illness and did not travel with the team to Gonzaga and Washington State last weekend.
Dyer was a two-time all-state selection at Madison East High School. She averaged 24.6 points per game as a senior, ranking second in the state. She was ranked the No. 3 player in the state by WisSports.net.
