The Wisconsin womens basketball team (1-0, 0-0 Big
Ten) started the 2006-07 campaign off on the right foot, flying past Air Force
91-58 Friday. Junior Janese Banks led the Badgers with a career-high 28 points
and classmate Jolene Anderson added 23 in the winning effort. The duo also led Wisconsin
on the boards with seven rebounds apiece.
Wisconsin shot an impressive
55 percent from the field, hitting 34 of its 62 shots. The Badgers also nailed
10 3-pointers in the contest, which is the second-most in school history. (The
program has hit 11 3-pointers three times). Anderson
hit five of those treys to tie her career high.
Whole the Badger offense was on fire, the defense also played to its
potential, limiting the Falcons to just 37 percent shooting from the field
while also forcing 27 turnovers. Those 27 Air Force turnovers resulted in 46
points for the Badgers. In a low rebounding game, Wisconsin
also had a 23-17 advantage on the boards.
Wisconsin jumped out to a 23-9
lead after seven minutes of play. Lisa Stones squad led 50-22 at the break.
Helping aid in the Badger scoring effort was sophomore Caitlin Gibson, who
shots 6-of-7 from the field for 12 points. Danielle Ward also chipped in seven
scores. All 13 Badgers who stepped out on the court finished with points.
Pamela Findlay led Air Force (0-1) with 15 points.
Wisconsin welcomes Western
Michigan to the KohlCenter
for its home opener at Tuesday.
