MADISON, Wis. - Tamara Moore broke a number of records while playing on the Wisconsin women’s basketball team from 1998-02. Saturday though, UW’s career assist and steals leader, is breaking down another barrier as she will suit up as the only female player on the American Basketball Association’s (ABA) Minnesota Blizzards.
According to the team’s Web site, the Blizzards will play 12 exhibition games from November through January and the team features 13 male players on the roster. The Blizzards are coached by Ben Coleman, who played collegiately at Minnesota and Maryland.
After four years at Wisconsin, Moore continued her basketball career in the WNBA. She began with the Minnesota Lynx during the 2002 season and then played for the Phoenix Mercury from 2003-05. Her final stop in the WNBA was the Los Angeles Sparks from 2005-06.
The Blizzards take on the St. Thomas University All-Stars in an exhibition game at 1 p.m. Saturday. The game will be played at St. Paul Central High School, so if you’re in the Twin Cities, head on over to the game to support Moore.
