MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin head coach Bobbie Kelsey has tapped into the leadership of her veteran core of players, naming seniors Taylor Wurtz, Morgan Paige and Cassie Rochel along with junior Michala Johnson as captains for the 2013-14 season. The players were elected by a team vote.
“Taylor, Morgan, Michala and Cassie have been voted as our new captains for this season and they all will do a wonderful job of leading our team, both on and off the court,” commented Kelsey.
Being selected as a captain is nothing new for Wurtz, as she served in the same roll the previous two seasons. The redshirt senior is back on the court after missing the majority of 2012-13 with a back injury.
Paige, UW’s leading scorer a year ago, along with Rochel and Johnson will team up with Wurtz to lead the team throughout Kelsey’s third season at the helm.
“I trust all four of the young women as veterans to stay aware of the pulse of the team as we embark on our journey toward a Big Ten championship,” continued Kelsey. “Each of them are quite deserving of this privilege and honor to represent our team.”
Wisconsin’s season gets underway on Nov. 3 when it hosts Winona State in an exhibition game at the Kohl Center at 3 p.m. The Badgers tip off the year on Nov. 10 when they host Drake at 2 p.m.
