MADISON, Wis. -- Seven teams that competed in the 2014 postseason, including five 20-plus win teams, highlight the non-conference schedule for the Wisconsin women’s basketball team, head coach Bobbie Kelsey announced Wednesday. The Badgers will play 10 non-conference games as the Big Ten Conference schedule has increased to 18 games this season.

“I am pleased with the caliber and quality of the teams comprising our non-conference schedule,” Kelsey said. “As always with scheduling, we strive to play teams who have participated in postseason play, thus challenging ourselves to compete against some of the most competitive teams in the country.

“With this non-conference schedule, we will no doubt gain valuable experience while preparing for the rigors of Big Ten play. We are excited and are looking forward to an exciting season.”

Wisconsin opens play in November with two exhibition games, taking on UW-River Falls on Nov. 9 and Minnesota-Duluth on Nov. 12 in the Kohl Center.

The season officially kicks off on Nov. 16 when the Badgers host Illinois State (10-20 in 2013-14). UW also welcomes Vanderbilt (18-13) to Madison on Nov. 20. The Commodores lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament in 2014.

The Badgers’ first road game is at Drake (17-15) on Nov. 23 before they head to Freeport, Bahamas, for the Junkanoo Jam. Wisconsin faces NCAA Sweet 16 participant South Carolina (29-5) in the opening round on Nov. 27. WNIT participant East Carolina (22-9) takes on NCAA second-round qualifier Syracuse (23-10) in the other semifinal. The championship and consolation games take place on Nov. 28.

Wisconsin travels to Miami (16-15) for the eighth-annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Dec. 4 before returning home to host in-state rival Marquette (22-10) on Dec. 6. The Hurricanes and Golden Eagles both competed in the WNIT in 2014.

UW travels to NCAA second-round participant Florida (20-13) on Dec. 10 before heading to WNIT player Green Bay (22-10) to take on the Phoenix on Dec. 13.

The Badgers wrap up the non-conference season on Dec. 20 by hosting Oral Roberts (9-20) at the UW Field House in their third-annual Return to the Field House game.
